Sooooak aaaa toooooooeee AHHHHH

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 18, 2009, 4:24 AM

Hurray, it's been over a month, and now I am here a-poastin' and totally not keeping up with replies. Honestly, what is up with me? Spend mah time flopping all the time, jeeblies...

        So... let's get updatin'?

        WARNING: tl;dr-ers jump ship NOW

____University

I'm on my Reading Week Break from univ now. It's more like... 11 days 'cause I have Fri and Mon off too (no classes those days.... Four-day weekends EVERY week rocks so wonderfully awesome  ). But... I guess maybe can't cut it down 3 days, 'cause I went into school anyways to work on my painting.

Last Friday, Sunday, and Monday, I did that. Luckily, Fatima also came in with me. She had classes on Friday, but came by after class and kept me company for hours. Same pattenr Sun-Mon, coming to visit after she finished up. Glad I can sleep in now, but I'm glad I have her to keep me active instead of floppin' 'round at home. When we're not broke, of course.

I asked her Thurs if she'd want to hang out with me on Singles Awareness Day but she was too broke to go do anything. We both just needed to go to Opus anyways to get art supplies. Plans scrapped Friday 'cause of money issues. Asked me if I was still going into school to work though, but we decided sleeping in that day would be better, and came Sun. instead.

____Painting
Aaanyway, painting! Our subject was abstract painting. Yeah yeah, blah blah, a lot of people don't like it, ah well. I'm quite fond of it, actually. Quite fond of most, if not all art, really. Open to it anyway. Some are strange.. I think especially performance arts... Those are most strange to me. @___@ I think I just lack the context of them most the time so I don't understand so it turns out with me being confused 'cause it's weird.

So.. that said like nothing about what I actually painted. Decided I'd grid mine, have a nice 50" x 50" (4ft x 4ft OMGOSH, this thing was one inch too big to fit in our SUV so I had to strap it to the roof and driving there, we (dad and I) were paranoid it'd go flying off and someone would have a free canvas (possible value of $100++ if store-bought.. and this is just blank canvas, btw) or hurt someone. I'm hoping it's the first choice, 'cause I'm conceited. Okay, okay, I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.))))))))))) I forgot what I was talking about and how many parenthesis I put there, so a lot to close it off will do DON'T TELL ME ABOUT SYNTAX ERRORS. >:0000

Where was I? Oh. Canvas, grid, size..... 10" x 10"x squares each. I made a checker board and umm.. I'm just hoping it's not too plain. It seems like it compared to everyone else's but heck, it was a lot of tedious work, taping, sealing edges, hand painting a bunch of weaving circuit-like lines, trying to keep it all clean and straight....

I mooched a lot of acrylic gel medium. A LOT. That stuff is darn expensive. I bought a 470mL tub of it, but I think I probs mooched the same amount from the school supply (think they had around 3L of it) without even touching mine. Art supplies are so expensive anyways, I'll take what I can... *twiddles fingers* Prof said that we were free to use it anyways...!! :0 Just never specified how much... >__> Guess he might not care, as he understands the needs of art students...? The big tub was gone on Monday though; think it was all used up, but I was glad I took a little more than I needed.

Speaking of my painting prof, he gave me like.. no crit on my WIP on it. Not that that's a bad thing, not bad at all, actually (well, I hope). I was always hesitant on what I was going to do with the painting, so I always asked him before hand. He always supported it and/or helped me pick one of the choices I had. He never stopped the class so that everyone could comment and tell me on how to improve it. I guess it was just so straightforward that it didn't need it.

At first, when I finished drawing out my grid with pencil, we were both joking, "It's done!!" and how it was totally a Malevich recreation (see White on White... And now now, don't judge it too harshly because there's a context behind Supremetist Art..! :0 ) Ah. If only he wasn't joking (or was he?) and I could be all conceptual with it and call it done right there. I'm sure most of my classmates would be very miffed though, seeing as how I didn't put that much work into it really (I mean... yes I did... >__> ). I mean, I don't even know what concept I'd put it in..

"Umm, well, you know.. I created a new art movement called the Grandiose Lazism. Basically, I make art with by hardly doing anything and make it look like it has some great, deep meaning, 'cause I said so. Isaidsoism. Ah. I like it. What a waste of canvas though, if I did that. No thanks.

Amber said she saw some being hung up in the FINA Gallery today Tuesday, so guess that Sam guy really did finish his painting (seriously, so many people didn't seem done) and put them up. We'll be exhibiting until Feb. 27 (next Fri).

And ohhh, I guess I made two new acquaintances when going in to work on my paintings - Darren and Matt. They're both 1st years, so they were quite curious in what I was doing/what to expect in the next years. One of them weirded me out a little when he shook my hand.. I think Amber told me about him. :c I totally pulled a face of confusion when I left the classroom to get my art stuff.. 0___o

____Art History
Had my Slide Exam last Tuesday and think I did very well. Remembered all the names the dates and think I answered all the questions decently too. Despite my prof's jumbly and slightly repetitive lectures, her exam studying format is very well done and organized. She takes a reasonable 20-25 different pieces (versus like 100+ in 1st year art history >__< ), splits them up into their time periods, provides us with a powerpoint of all the pictures, and definitions for all the terms we need to know (probs around 10-15 of them). Also provides exactly what we need to know about the work's name, location, and artist, and just need for us to write down the date of the period it belonged to, not exact year (which was SUCH a pain in 1st year with that prof... had to only be 1-2 years off from what it was :( ). She'd take around 10 from the images, and 5 definitions.

But yeah, can't wait for the score. I hope I'm not disappointed.. I hate when I think I did well, and... don't. =__= But.. but it's been awhile since I've been very confident going into an exam, and felt good afterwards, so... Going to give myself a break.

____Drawing
I've got a big portfolio due next Wednesday, so hoping I get trucking on it soon. One of the big parts of it is The Human Condition.. I'm doing Loneliness, lol. Nothing like a big pool of emo-juice to wash away artist block. We also have to come up with a useless/weird invention. Prof says we can stray from the specific guidelines if we wanted. WIGGLE ROOM?! I LOVE WIGGLE ROOM!!! :'D Or I just love to wiggle, hurr~ (It's your faaav pasttime, Sheepsy! )

Oh! Also have to cartoonize 10 historical paintings/artworks. That's going to be entertaining.. if only I would START. Was going to.. well, yesterday now.. do that, but I got preoccupied by something very fascinating (personal reminder: check your chat logs with Sheepasheep if j0o confuuused, litto' Fishuu :3)

Think that's it... I'll look at the requirement sheet again soon. =__=

____Computer Imaging and Design
This class has been quite easy too. I feel bad for helping the prof out when she's stuck while instructing the class... Or that one time I was trying to help her after class, with Flash... or helping classmates with their projects (even overheard her joking behind me saying it was like I was teaching the class... I had a big crowd around me :c )... I don't blame her too much though. One, she's new at teaching, and two, I think her strength lies more in Film/Video stuff. Ah well.. at least I'm getting a good mark in participation..?!

Last last Friday, I went to visit Ms. Suzuki to pass along the [finally] finished promotional bookmarks for her VISA classes, so I asked her... Told her I felt uneasy for helping her while she's teaching us, like I've crossed the line or something. Ms. Suzuki said that it was alright though, that it was my specialty and I'd spent years doing this kind of stuff already. I just needed to tell the prof that I felt that way.. which I did, she seemed okay with it. Kind of hard to tell though, she makes me confused.

Last Thursday, we presented our avatars (character we created; could represent ourselves, or be totally different... think The Sims). Three scenes and 4 poses. Poses and scenes should pose a narrative when avatar is placed within the scene. I admit I had quite a lot of fun... gave it a backstory, that I thought was kind of lame, but the class enjoyed it.

Hand-drew all mine too. Was going to do it all in oC, but I ran out of time (yeaaah, good at comp stuff, but yet, I always seem to put off every project until the day before, lol). Cut a lot of corners just to finish. Of course, as a personal rule of mine that I think I probably heard somewhere... Never point out your mistakes. Most the time, people don't even notice until you point it out. Just make it look like you intended it that way or improvise

Not only was it supposed to be all completely painted in oC, it was supposed to be very realistic and detailed... and my avatar wasn't even supposed to be transparent (just saw my pencil drawing of her outline), but coloured in. I told them I left her transparent 'cause I wanted her to blend in with the background (she was a spirit, it made sense), and the class actually agreed and liked it that way. Fatima said it was better that way too, even knowing that I wanted to colour her in.

I even left my pencil sketch of the background over my slightly coloured scene so you could sort of see, but said I liked the effect it did with the two together. Prof said he liked that a lot too.

One classmate asked me why there was a figure in one of them but wasn't coloured in like the rest of them, and I just said 'cause they were a low minion, so they didn't get enough stage time (dominance in the scene), lol... I actually just changed my mind 'cause it looked weird there in the pencil drawing.

That same classmate also tried to rat out one of my closer acquaintances (CA meaning, closer to friend than just acq.) by asking a seemingly innocent question... Last semester, we had all learned how to do LiveTrace in Illustrator to vectorize our drawings, and a lot of people do that for the avatar project as a quick way to get things looking... digital. It really takes only a minute at most to do. That classmate asked my CA how she did the background for hers, hoping to alert the prof that she didn't spend that much time with her project. Clearly ill-intentions that I'm quite split on. On one hand, it's unfair to not put as much effort in as other people and using something to do the work for you.. On the other hand, it's unfair to point out something to nosedive their mark.. just.. the ill-intention of it makes me uneasy. That classmate didn't even finish her project though, psh.. and I think my explanation for the almost invisible figure was plausible enough. My prof laughed at my explanation.. must be good..? >__>

Overall though.. I think I like these cutting corner things... It's not that I'm lying or cheating (I do feel bad sometimes though, yeah yeah...), but I think it helps me improve or push it into new directions. Improvising is delicious

Next project, we get to do an animation. Think I'm going to do it with Flash, 'cause it's really the only animation program I have on my comp right now. Plus.. it's easiest to me... Don't have time to learn AfterEffects, and don't own a Mac to even have it at home... Flash is more flexible anyway, I think.

____You has so much talkingness of art, Fishuu... WHY DON'T YOU POAST ANY >:0000
Yes, I gots lotsa' art that I haven't posted yet, but quite simply put: I'm lazy. Longer explanations... you can choose from:
*Haven't had time to edit stuff to post anything.
*Haven't had time to go back and finish them to how I want them to be "finished".
*Haven't had time to take pictures/scan them.
    *Haven't had time.
*All my art is actually stolen from other people, so if I post too many, there may be a lot more lawsuits than I can actually pay up for. (I joke.)

____The End
Okay, so that's enough [for] now. My lappy battery actually started dying half an hour ago but I plugged it in just so I could finish this thing. I'm dead tired...

Sorry for the length, I was quite inspired to write today. I'll try to post a couple artsy things this week, but gamble on it. I am an uber-laze.
